Come and celebrate the Spanish festival La Tomatina on Saturday 21 August from 12 noon at the Theatre District .
Spanish restaurant Ortega, situated in the top corner of the District (just along from TGI Fridays), will be offering fun activities both within and outside their venue plus they will have the famous ‘tomato’ throwing down on the grass area near the bumper cars. On this occasion the tomatoes will be replaced by sponges, but there will be plenty of other entertainment including face painting, balloon modelling, bouncy castle and the chance to sample complimentary Spanish cuisine.
The real La Tomatina takes place annually on the last Weds of August in the village of Bunol near Valencia, Spain. It started in the 1940s but no one really knows why. What began as a civil disturbance became adopted by the locals and each year now attracts huge international crowds for the worlds largest food fight.
All funds raised by Ortega will be donated to Action for Children, a charity that supports and speaks out for the UK’s most vulnerable and neglected children and young people. More information about the charity can be found on their website – www.actionforchildren.org.uk
Fun and activities commence at 12 noon and continue until 5pm. There will also be dodgems and a small fun fair on the grass area. Return to this page for up to date information on any extra activities through the day.
