Chaddy the Owl takes Olympic Gold

L to R: Captain Blade (2009 Olympic Champion), Chaddy the Owl (2010 Olympic Champion), Whaddney the Robin (2008 Olympic Champion), Hangus (2010 Reserve Champion

Chaddy the Owl from Oldham Athletic took the Olympic Champion title with Hangus from Hartlepool United a close reserve .  As ever it was a day of spills and thrills and even in the immense heat the mascots took time to interact with and entertain the crowds.

The Ramada Encore Bin the Boot was won by Sky Blue Sam (Coventry City FC) with Captain Blade (Sheffield United FC) 2nd.  Howie the Hornet won the funniest mascot in that event by getting his head stuck in one of the bins!!!

The Slug & Lettuce Ball Dash was taken very seriously and after 4 heats and a final was eventually won by Chaddy the Owl with Hangus coming a close second.  Mooie was picked out as the funniest in that event as he was struggling to keep his pants up ... The Red Hot Penalty Shoot Out saw some fantastic footballing youngsters doing their best against the mascots.  10 balls were kicked a piece and both Whaddney the Robin (Cheltenham Town FC) and Chaddy the Owl (Oldham) managed to save them all, but Whaddney took first place as he was judged higher on style.  Pucky (MK Lightning) took the funniest rosette due to drama and theoretical injury!

Red Card Drama was just as it suggested.  Firstly they had to re-inact a foul, then after scoring a goal do their best celebrational moves and finally, for the 6 still remaining, demonstrate their England World Cup victory dance.  A tough one for the judges but eventually Howie the Hornet (Horsham FC) was declared the winner with Hangus (Hartlepool) the runner up.  Percy the Penguin (Sno!Zone) was declared the funniest after the most amazing gymnastics during the first round! The Sno!Zone Unbalancer was a difficult event for many.  Some mascots only lasted a few seconds but Xscape Ape was a clear winner with Gully Mouse a strong 2nd.  Roary the Tiger (Hull City FC) took the most entertaining award when he tried to tape himself to the board!!

Finally the Pauley Interactive Obstacle Challenge as ever took many casualties.  Especially in the heat of the day some mascots found it all too much.  Chaddy the Owl, however, blasted around to win, followed closely by Howie the Hornet.  The funniest mascot in this event was Jolly Green Giant (Yeovill Town FC) as he managed to knock down every single jump with his giant boots then got his giant head and hat stuck under the pyramids.

Pucky from MK Lighting won the Most Entertaining Mascot overall and other prizes were given for best turned out (Florence Moo, Willen Hospice), Furthest travelled (Hangus all the way from Hartlepool), Most Sporting Mascot (Bernie from Northampton Saints ... not natural for a rugby loving dog to play football!!), Kindest Mascot (Bearemy from Build a Bear Workshop) and finally Best World Cup Prospect went to Roary the Tiger from Hull.

A fantastic day with thanks also to MK Parkour for their demo and workshop, and the dance groups Flaunt and Dance Energie who wowed spectators.
