Saturday 5th June is the date of the award winning 2010 Theatre District Mascot Olympics, this time with a World Cup twist.
If you haven't watched this event over the past few years, you just don't know what you are missing. This is hysterical and has become an annual 'must see' for many!
The event will commence with a warm up at around 10.45 (all welcome to join the mascots in this) and then at 11am the Mayor will officially open the activities and the chaos will begin!
11.05 – Ramada Encore Bin the Boot – mascots throw boots to score points
11.30 – Slug & Lettuce Ball Dash – A football race with a difference … and spectator involvement is a must, so please be there to help!
12 noon – mascots go in for lunch, but entertainment continues with :
12 noon – Flaunt dance group
12.15 - MK Parkour (display and workshop)
1pm – Red Hot Penalty Shoot Out – mascots test their goalie skills
1.30pm – Red Card Drama – will the mascots convince the judging panel that they are the injured party in a foul and then what will they do to celebrate a goal scored?
2.15pm – Sno!Zone Unbalancer – a test of balance .. who will last the longest?
3pm – Pauley Interactive Obstacle Course – the final event which will push the exhausted mascots to their limits testing their stamina, agility and determination.
3.45 – Dance Energie demo and Zumba workshop
4.15 – Mascot prize presentation
We are also looking for young footballers to join us in the penalty shoot out where we assess the goalie skills of the mascots, so if you are interested in signing up for that send an e-mail to sara.mills@theatre-district.co.uk .
So far we have about 25 mascots joining us for the day, many travelling from football clubs around the country plus, of course, all our local furry / fluffy / huggable friends. Captain Blade (Sheffield United), last year's overall Olympic Champion, plus Roary the Tiger (Hull) who won the award of most entertaining mascot in 2009 are both keen to return and defend their titles. There promises to be a real battle though as we have plenty of new, fresh talent who are hungry for success.
The Mascot Olympics is now classed as the 'best Mascot event in the country' due to the fact it is fair, fun and the mascots get to do what they love most ... interact with the crowds and have their pictures taken with the children.
This year we will be supporting and raising funds for Spinal Injuries Association and also have a special appeal for Ashley Hyde , a local boy who switched on our Christmas lights and who has been battling a rare form of childhood cancer.
As well as the Mascot mayhem there will be other activities including a fun fair, various
stalls and entertainment. If you would like to be part of the day please do contact us.
Keep an eye on the website and on our Theatre District facebook page for updated information.
